Veterinary Careers 1 & 2

This program will introduce students to animal care and veterinary medicine while using field experience to attain necessary skills. Students will learn and demonstrate standard protocols used in veterinary careers. This course will provide students with necessary knowledge and aptitude needed to make the transition from school to work.

COURSE OVERVIEW: 1ST YEAR
(DOE COURSE: VETERINARY CAREERS I-5211)
  • Students will be introduced to the science of Biology
  • Trained to provide professional support to veterinarians
  • Hands-on experiences such as blood draws, animal restraining, and preparing examination rooms for veterinarians
  • Students will be introduced to post-secondary opportunities in veterinary science
COURSE OVERVIEW: 2ND YEAR
(DOE COURSE: HEALTH SCIENCE II-NURSING-5284)
  • Continue to refine skills as a veterinarian technician
  • Hands-on experiences such as grooming, lab testing, and independent scientific research
  • Students will design the structure and organization of their own veterinary facility
  • Opportunity for internships in local veterinary clinics that may lead to employment
  • Prerequisite: Veterinary Assisting 1
    (DOE COURSE: VETERINARY CAREERS I-5211)
CAREER FOCUS
  • Students will be prepared to pursue further education to become a veterinary technician, a veterinary assistant, or a veterinarian
