Pre-Nursing (CNA Concentration)

Students will be prepared to continue their pursuit of an Associate Degree and National Certification in Surgery Technology. The demand for Certified Surgical Technologists continues to grow. Employment opportunities are found in a variety of medical settings such as operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, central supply, labor and delivery areas, cardiac catheterization laboratories, private physician offices, and other settings where invasive procedures are performed.

1st YEAR COURSE OVERVIEW
  • Learn about being a critical member of the surgical team
  • Acquire expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique
  • Become knowledgeable of human anatomy, medical terminology, surgical procedures, and sterilization of surgical equipment/tools
  • Learn the instrumentation and technologies
    needed to facilitate a physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Students will have the opportunity to explore the
    various health/surgical related fields through job shadowing
  • Juniors only with two year program commitment
    and will require an additional year of study beyond the two-year commitment to earn a national certification
  • Prerequisite: MUST have 4 semesters of high school completed, have a minimum GPA of 2.6 AND be on the Core 40 Diploma track; OR have passed a standardized test with one of the following scores:

2nd YEAR COURSE OVERVIEW
  • Second year students will participate in a clinical placement at a surgery performing site

Earn up to 12 College Credits and early college certificate
Dementia Care and CNA Certification available
Costs = $100.00/yr + scrubs
