Manufacturing Technology 1 & 2

Students who are mechanically inclined, prefer to work independently, and can concentrate and do highly accurate work, may want to consider a career as a machinist. Machinists use lathes, milling machines and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines like the CNC plasma cutter, CNC mills, CNC lathes, or 3D printer to produce large quantities of parts for production or one-of-a-kind items.

COURSE OVERVIEW: 1ST YEAR

  • Operate manual machines, lathes, mills, and surface grinders
  • Real-world experience working on projects for local companies
  • Three NIMS certifications
  • Hands-on training in a fully equipped machine shop with the latest equipment
COURSE OVERVIEW: 2ND YEAR
(DOE COURSE: PRECISION MACHINING II-5784)
  • Utilize CNC mills, CNC lathe, CNC plasma cutter, 3D printer, and 100W CO2 laser
  • Paid internships
  • Two NIMS certifications
  • Prerequisite: Machine Shop 1
    (DOE COURSE: PRECISION MACHINING I-5782)
CAREER FOCUS
  • Students will be prepared for a job in the machining field with CNC programming/operation experience and/or further education in the engineering field or apprenticeship programs
