Graphic Design 1 & 2

Students will learn how to produce professional graphic designs such as posters, magazine covers, business cards, brochures, etc. Emphasis will be on design layout principles, the psychology and effective use of color, and creative typography. Students will explore a wide range of computer programs used for photo editing, illustration, print layout and web design. Print production techniques will also be introduced.

COURSE OVERVIEW:
1ST YEAR (DOE COURSE: GRAPHIC DESIGN & LAYOUT-5550)
  • Learn about typography, color theory, electronic illustration and photo manipulation
  • Learn the basic functions of Adobe Creative Cloud software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Create logos and layouts for posters, social media, billboards, magazine covers, and more
  • Produce an exciting and creative portfolio that will be used to gain employment and/or acceptance into an art college
  • Participate in nationally-recognized art/design competitions
COURSE OVERVIEW:
2ND YEAR (DOE COURSE: GRAPHIC IMAGING & TECHNOLOGY-5572)
  • Create professional multi-page graphic designs such as editorial spreads, postcards, greeting cards, brochures, calendars, and more
  • Explore GIF animation and website design
  • Work with actual clients and get paid for your designs
  • Continue adding college-level work to your portfolio
  • Prerequisite: Graphic Design 1
(DOE COURSE: GRAPHIC DESIGN & LAYOUT-5550) CAREER FOCUS
  • Students will be prepared to attend college or art school, gain immediate entry-level employment in the graphic design field, or begin a freelance career
