Automotive Refinishing

COURSE OVERVIEW
(DOE COURSE: AUTOMOTIVE COLLISION REPAIR II-5544)

Students will learn the skills needed for entry-level employment in the fast-paced environment of an automotive refinishing facility. The skills include basic panel preparation, undercoats, waterborne basecoat/clearcoat application, color matching and blending, tri-coat finishes, and automotive detailing. Estimating the cost of repairs is also part of the course curriculum.

  • Introduction and discussion related to safety and the environment, refinish equipment, and color theory, application, tinting, and blending
  • MSDS, environmental laws, and material mixing
  • Paint vehicles using industry-standard equipment and materials
  • Work side-by-side with experienced automotive refinishing technicians
  • Efficiently produce quality repairs in the fast-paced environment of an automotive refinishing facility
  • Prerequisite: Automotive Collision Repair

CAREER FOCUS
  • Students will be prepared for immediate employment in the automotive refinishing industry, ASE certification, and/or further education
